Introducing Elkin!

Here he is! Just took this a few minutes ago in our hotel!!!

Elkin

Wow, that was quite the experience! It was pretty fast, in and out, but everyone was great. Thank goodness for our interpreter! We went to the ICBF office in Montería with our interpreter, met the director of the agency, and then in came Elkin with the psychologist.

They introduced him to us as mami y papi and he was very, very shy. Not upset, just shy. We brought him one of those cars that you push a bit and then it takes off - that was a hit. Elkin LOVES cars, they even told us that today as part of his personality description. So he's had a blast with that on the concrete floor here in the hotel.

The whole process was only 1/2 hour or so and then we were back in a taxi to our hotel.

He started crying when we got to the hotel. We finally got in the elevator and to our room but the maid was cleaning!!! Bad timing!! We took a stroll around the hotel and finally got him laughing when we started driving the car all over our body! He loved that :)

Since we've been here, we got him to drink and eat some, went to the bathroom for the first time, and he even insisted on a shower! We found out he showers three times a day! We're told he's very, very, very clean. He wants clean clothes and will not tollerate being dirty or having food on him. Who knew you could be obsessive compuslive at 3? - he must have gotten this from his new parents ;)

Lots and lots of stuff just in the last few hours - we're exauhsted!! He's quite the handful. And a smile that'll break a lot of hearts, we're sure. We'll try to post some more tonight.

There are a few more pics of Elkin - just click on the Elkin link under the photo of him on the right.

Thanks so much for posting the pics of your new son. My heart is just racing for you! We have a question...could you comment on what Elkin's living arrangement was before you got him? Was he in a group home or foster care? Now that you have him, will he continue to stay with you for the remainder of your trip?

Cindi - Elkin was in foster care for almost his entire life. We're not sure if it was the same foster home or not but we *think* so.

Yes, he'll continue to stay with us. We have an "integration" meeting the end of this week or the beginning of next to sign the full custody agreement. Then it's the full adoption process after that - the legal part. That's the 1 week or 2 week or 8 week process (we have no idea yet).

Congratulations!! Elkin is such a handsome little boy. He is sure to be a heartbreaker. There are just no words to describe the moment when you become a mami and papi. All I can say I'm glad its Elkin who wants to shower 3X/day. While in Monteria we did showers only every 3rd day for Angelica (yeah..she was a little stinky) but she couldn't stand yet and she HATED the cold water. She screamed, kicked and cried the whole time. It was so much fun.
He looks like such a fun little guy.

You have a beautiful new son! I'm sure you are very proud. I have been reading your blog and it is so interesting. We can't wait to meet Elkin but I know it will take him a little while to get used to everything. So much change. Have a safe and wonderful trip!

I bet you are exhausted and full of emotion. I get emotional just reading about him! He is really, really a cutie. I had no idea he would be staying with you the entire time you are there. Just figured it would be a slow process of seeing him a few hours a day until you got used to each other. Your love will win him over quickly. Kids know when they are loved! Congratulations. The stork finally came! Marcia

What a cutie! Congrats to you guys! Gotcha Day is a whirlwind - it takes a little while to process. I am glad we video taped ours & took lots of photos because there was so much going on so quickly - I'm not sure I would have remembered it all...Enjoy Monteria - it really is a nice place with amazing people!!

What a cutie!!! When you talk to your interpreter, request his "protection file". We didn't get ours while we were in Colombia. We requested it and it was a hassle trying to get it. We just received it last week and we've been home over two months. Sometimes it will give a bit more history than you've been told. We paid for the copies hoping we would get them and we did.

What a cutie! Enjoy your time in Colombia. There will never be another time like it when all you have to concentrate on is learning about and being with each other.

I'm really happy for all of you! I think this is great and only going to get better.

I hope three showers a day in Carbondale water is ok...

I notice you already have kid's shows on in the back. :) You'll never control the remote ever again!
